Control Room Integration

With about 11,000 employees the French water services company Lyonnaise des Eaux Bor-deaux is the most important supplier of drinking water in the South-West of France. The company delivers drinking water for more than 9 million people, and serves for the water purification as well. In addition, the company is responsible for the flood control in the area of Bordeaux.

In 1992 the community of Bordeaux launched a flood protection project called RAMSES. Reason for this were the ongoing flooding caused by the river Garonne, which constantly exceeded its limits in case of heavy rainfalls.

Control Room Integration

In cooperation with the French office for meteorology, the company takes over the control of the river, in order to prevent the flooding after all, or to minimize damages. For this reason, a control room has been built in 1992 already which now has been modernised.

The core element of the new control room is a large screen system from eyevis. The system is connected to various signal sources, like camera signals, software application, maps and meteorological sources. All these can be controlled and displayed simultaneously on the new video wall. The windows for the signals can be placed anywhere on the wall, and scaled to any size.

The video wall is made up of nine DLP™ rear-projection cubes type EC-50-SXT. The cubes have a screen diagonal of 50" (127cm) each. Thanks to the seamless design of the cubes the resulting gaps between the individual cubes measure only up to 0.6 mm - almost invisible.

The video wall is controlled with the netpix graphics controller. This device provides connectivity for the various signal sources and creates a coherent desktop surface on the cubes, so that all displayed content can be scaled or moved independently from the borders of the individual cubes.

The video wall is based on a vibration- absorbing basement. This development by eyevis guarantees the trouble-free operation of the cubes in environments with constant or sudden vibrations, caused either by huge machines like Generators, or by earthquakes.

Since the control room is run in 24/7 operating mode, all components have been selected for their outstanding reliability in operation. The control room is also equipped with an EYE-CD4700, a professional TFT LCD monitor from eyevis. The LC display has a screen diagonal of 47 inch and several features which makes it fit for sophisticated applications in professional environments.
