A recent survey by the Carbon Trust suggested that energy efficiency tops the list of cost saving priorities for companies looking to fight the recession.
There has never been a better time to implement energy monitoring systems: the credit crunch and high energy prices are reason enough. For 5000 companies, the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) will provide further motivation when it’s introduced April 2010. This legislation affects the second tier of UK businesses previously unaffected by EUETS (European Union Emissions Trading Scheme) and Climate Change Agreements. Combined, this legislation will improve energy efficiency and together with nuclear and renewable energy will help reach the government’s target of 80% reduction of emissions by 2050.
Later this year sees the launch of BS EN 16001 European Energy Management Standard. This will be soon followed by ISO5001 International Energy Management Standard. These standards will help organisations continually improve energy efficiency and receive independent certification to prove this. At the heart of these standards, based on ‘plan-do-check-act’ methodology, will be the requirement to monitor and measure processes - and this is where Endress+Hauser’s eSight energy monitoring system comes in. Simple and highly scalable, it covers each of the three components that make up an energy monitoring solution.
