Project: Renewal of the energy and network control center.

Nordostschweizerische Kraftwerke AG, NOK, is the leading producer of electricity in Switzerland. The electricity is produced using nuclear energy, hydroelectric energy and new energies. Annual energy sales amount to around 24,000 million kWh. Together with the grid infrastructure of the participating cantons, CKW and EGL, NOK has the most important transmission and distribution network in Switzerland. In order to manage its power plants optimally, NOK is actively engaged in the trading of electricity on the international markets.

The main energy and network control center in Baden has to operate 24/7 and meets a variety of task. The most important are:

Network control

The network control provides a balance between energy consumption and production. Short-term, unforeseen fluctuations in consumption or power plant failures require a rapid and efficient action.

Network operation management

The continuous flow of electricity between power plant and consumers need a wellfunctioning mains. This means, that when network elements fail because of a breakdown, they have to be reconnected or be repaired as soon as possible.

Project As part of the expanded roles and work processes, the requirements of the entire infrastructure of the command area for the energy and network control centre have changed.

One Single Keyboard

Each controller can access with just one keyboard several PCs and big screen monitors.

Remote PCs for a better climate in the control center

The PCs were relocated to the system room to reduce heat and noise radiation at the workplace. For transmission of the signal between system room and workstation structured cabling and the WEY WS-Remote were used. The variation in signal strengths normally created over twisted pair cables is compensated for automatically within the WEY system.

Allocation System

On each workplace there is an Allocation Switch Screen installed to access the generally used sources. On this screen the common sources, such as the document visualizer, TV, large screen display of the control PC are available.

As different as the roles of structure of security and control are, both have one thing in common: all information go through the command area of NOK. They have to be presented and processed quickly, explicitly and effectively.
For this project 16 rear projection cubes from eyevis were used. With their flexibility and reliability they cover all requirements.

Expansion is possible anytime

Because of the modular system structure it is possible to easily have further user-specific expansions. This results in lower equipment costs.
