A full noise impact assessment by Red Acoustics ensured that a proposed tyre recycling facility could operate at an industrial unit, 24 hours a day, without disturbing residents in neighbouring houses.

The client, J7 Global Limited, required a comprehensive noise impact study for the proposed tyre recycling plant site located off the M65 at Junction 7 Business Park near Blackburn.

Noise Impact Assessment

The work meant Red Acoustics working closely with the client to determine a suitable scheme of noise control measures to satisfy the stringent noise egress criteria as well as strict planning regulations.

This was achieved using CadnaA modelling to accurately assess impact and to verify various noise control options to ensure most cost-effective solution.

HGV movements were also assessed, along with fixed plant items, before a detailed report was submitted. Planning consent was subsequently granted – a procedure in which the noise impact assessment was fundamental to the outcome.

The tyre recycling plant, which is delivered from Eldan in Denmark, will be shipped in 2010 and operations will start once all noise control measures are in place.

The machinery is very noisy – including super-choppers, heavy raspers and fine granulators – a true testament to the success of our acoustic engineering work.
