Boiler Room Building

Llandybie County Primary School in Carmarthenshire has recently undergone a complete revision of its boiler systems. The school originally used a pair of old and incredibly inefficient coal fired boilers. The decision was made to replace them with a new Stokvis Heatpak, pre-packaged boiler plant.

Originally the Heatpak’s versatility as a single complete unit was going to be taken advantage of by using it as a transportable complete boiler room. The council were planning to use the Heatpak in a range of council properties whilst under refurbishment. This idea was later dismissed but the benefits of the Stokvis Heatpak were undeniable and so it was decided to use it as the boiler room for Llandybie School.

Featured at the centre of the new Heatpak system, are a pair of super efficient Stokvis 200 kW Rex dual fuel boilers. These boilers are able to run just as effectively using either gas or oil. The complete system also features a pressurisation set, a buffer vessel and an Econoplate plate heat exchanger. Being a single complete unit the entire plant room was installed by simply being craned into position onto the concrete base.

School Heating Systems

School Heating Systems - Stokvis HeatpakThe contractor in charge of updating the school heating systems, JW&E Morris and Sons Limited employed Stokvis Energy Systems to work as a specialist sub contractor on the project. Vitec Webber Lenihan Limited, the Bridgend based mechanical and electrical consultancy decided on the exact specification of the product.

The alternative to installing the new Heatpak would be to embark on a lengthy and expensive process of refurbishing and refitting the original facility. The Heatpak, supplied as a single complete unit removed the complication of commisioning and building a plant room. It also negates the need for using many different suppliers and contractors – saving site time and also negates costly unforced site errors by being basically a ‘plug and play’ unit.

David Edwards, the Contracts Manager for J W & E Morris and Sons Limited, comments: “We undertake a lot of projects for councils and education authorities across Wales and we have utilised the Heatpak pre-packaged boiler plants several times in the past. Basically they are well suited to the requirements in Carmarthenshire where a lot of the schools are in remote outlying areas. Purchasing a Heatpak offers the flexibility that it is possible to relocate and reuse the boiler room if two or more old schools are consolidated onto a new site.”
