Innovative Window Glass Slashing Energy Bills
Posted by EnviroNews' European Correspondent on 10/01/2012 - 01:10:00
Recent news headlines have revealed that energy bills are rising to an unprecedented average of £1345 or $2082, leaving homeowners to find more inventive and cost-effective ways of keeping their homes warm.
A quarter of all homes' heat is lost through the windows, but energy saving glass can help keep houses warmer and save money on energy bills at the same time.
Planitherm is a next generation energy saving glass from Saint-Gobain Glass that captures free heat from the sun and then reflects heat back into a room.
Energy Saving Glass
Its secret is an invisible coating applied to the glass itself. This means the glass has an unrivalled mix of solar gain and thermal efficiency - it works by drawing in heat and light from outside, and by reflecting radiated heat that's already inside back into a room, rather than allowing it to escape out of the windows. Energy efficient windows with Planitherm glass in them can reduce heat loss by 50% compared to traditional windows and frames.
With the new energy efficient glass, less energy is required to heat a home and to get it to the right temperature. This can generate savings of up to 28% on household energy bills, which could save up to £478 per home per year if households upgrade to double glazed windows using the new glass.

Craig Dodsworth of Saint-Gobain Glass comments: "There are currently 26.3 million homes in the UK, which makes our nation's energy bill a staggering £35.373 billion per year. In the current climate there are substantial savings to be made by making homes more energy efficient, whether this is through sufficiently insulating a property or upgrading windows, doors and conservatories with A-rated glass like Planitherm."
Planitherm costs around the same prices as normal windows and can be ordered and installed through the national Installer Network of UK members. Find a local approved installer by visiting http://www.planitherm.com/find-an-installer.
