Ecohaus

Ecohaus was formed in 2005 with the unification of the Environmental Home Center and Environmental Building Supplies. Both companies were leaders in the field of supplying environmentally sourced building supplies. As a result Ecohaus was blessed with a wealth of expertise and a good reputation from its very beginning. The company has grown steadily since its inception and now has two stores in Seattle, WA and Portland, OR.

Ecohaus operates under the philosophy of supplying environmentally friendly building materials and products without forsaking aesthetics, quality or price. Products are comprehensively investigated to be sure of their green credentials. The company also looks at the life of the product once it has been sold. Factors such as; If broken, is the product repairable? Is the product built well enough, to last for years? How will the product be disposed of once discarded? Finally, is the product desirable enough to be cherished and not thrown away prematurely? These considerations means that Ecohaus will only ever provide truly environmentally friendly products.

Environmentally Sustainable Building Materials

One of Ecohaus' core product ranges features environmentally sustainable building materials. This range includes advanced, insulation materials. These alternative insulation products feature the use of recycled materials including paper and denim. They are much safer to handle than fibreglass and are comparable in performance and cost. Also included in the building materials range are high quality sheet materials. All of these products are made from recycled or sustainable materials and do not utilise adhesives or finishes that can be attributed to poor air quality. These sheet materials offer an alternative to standard timbers and include distinctive and attractive patterns and grains.

Environmentally Friendly Finishes

Ecohaus supply a wide range of environmentally friendly finishes and paints that do not use solvents usually found in most conventional paints and finishes. They are designed to be as easy to work with and as effective as their standard counterparts. The finishes on offer include a range of paints, stains and sealers for interior and exterior applications as well as an array of stylish wallpapers. They also provide a natural earth plaster that is easily workable and creates a high quality finish. In addition they offer are a variety of tools and accessories. These tools are built to be durable and to last for a lifetime of DIY projects.

Sustainable Garden Products

The sustainable garden products available from Ecohaus encompass; composting, decking materials, outdoor fires, garden furniture and landscaping materials.

The compost supplied is designed specifically for use with composting toilets and home composters. The composters offered are also pest proof.

All wood supplied for decking is FSC certified and is supported by a range of products for constructing, protecting and cleaning the decking. The wood chosen by Ecohaus has to be durable and also environmentally sourced.

RAIS outdoor fires are handmade by skilled craftsmen and are designed to be used as either a fireplace or a grill. They feature an attractive pyramid shape which is proven to radiate heat more effectively than regular fire pits.

All outdoor furniture from Ecohaus is FSC certified and substantially built to endure all weathers. The furniture is partially assembled during the manufacturing process so that only a small amount of assembly is required once purchased. The furniture is also treated for water resistance and protected from ultra violet light.

Landscaping materials are designed to be aesthetically pleasing and to sit comfortably in the garden environment. They are also designed to last at least as long as standard chemically infused equals without the use of any toxic treatments, therefore protecting plans and soil from contamination.
