We are a global firm of engineers, architects and business consultants, established over 50 years ago and now employing some 2,500 engineers located in 28 offices spread over eleven countries on three continents.
Merebrook Consulting Ltd is the UK division of the Spanish based Idom Group of companies and have our roots firmly in regeneration projects and have extensive experience involving brownfield and marginal land. We have teams of professional engineers, scientists and architects working in a diverse range of disciplines ranging from land contamination, ecology, acoustics and environmental impact assessments to health and safety, structural engineering design and project management of large engineering schemes.
Our pragmatic, multi-disciplined and fully-integrated approach brings our full complement of core skills and knowledge to resolve complex challenges within the built and natural environment.
This approach ensures that for any given project we bring together the very best talent in the world, irrespective of the sectors or regions in which they operate, to meet our clients' needs.
Environmental Impact Assessment Reports
Understanding the challenges facing developers, of delivering a commercially viable scheme whilst minimising adverse environmental effects are of paramount importance. Whether it is financing, planning, implementation or management of large or small scale development or key utility, transport and service infrastructure, environmental management and protection will be high on the agenda.
In order to facilitate this, an intimate understanding of the build programme and management is required, coupled with the sensitivities presented by the local environment.
Drawing on wide international experience, our combined skills and experience in assessing any environmental situation makes us perfectly placed to advise on the best strategy for Environmental Impact Assessment integration with developing policy, assessing impacts, creative design and implementation, gaining regulatory approvals, reporting publicly, managing risk and controlling costs.
In addition to environmental awareness, an increasing urban population has made Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) management, and more sustainable use of resources, a most pressing and challenging environmental issue.
We are committed to providing sustainable and integrated solutions to meet the challenges presented by all aspects of waste and resource management and also to emerging recycling and Biodegradable Municipal Waste (BMW) diversion targets. These cover the whole life cycle of a project from inception to completion and asset transfer, delivering creative solutions and tangible benefits.
Renewable Energy from Waste
The way we generate and use energy is changing dynamically to meet the challenges of globally escalating power requirements and the desire for a lower carbon future. The need to support energy suppliers and developers in meeting these future energy needs in a more sustainable manner has become a political priority, not only in the UK but globally.
Wind farms, solar arrays and ground source heat pumps; working closely with our Spanish colleagues, our combined expertise provide full technology design and support for all renewable and energy efficient generation schemes. These skill sets compliment our integrated expertise in environmental impact assessment reports, mechanical and electrical planning, Civil Engineering, architecture, design and asset management.
Our end-to-end approach, from planning new infrastructure to the safe disposal of redundant assets, ensures we work closely with clients to pursue, promote and develop results that support their business aspirations.
Geotechnical Engineering
Unforeseen ground conditions are one of the most common sources of risk on a development project in terms of potential financial loss, caused by delays and overruns, damage to property and loss of life. Consultations from an early stage in any can help predict these risks by understanding the site conditions and, where appropriate, facilitate the changes required to foundation design or contaminated land remediation in order to achieve best value.
Geotechnical engineering is concerned with the engineering behavior of earth materials and includes investigating existing subsurface conditions and materials; determining their physical/mechanical and chemical properties that are relevant to the project considered, assessing risks posed by site conditions; designing earthworks and structure foundations; and monitoring site conditions, earthwork and foundation construction.
Our long experience in ground engineering has been supported by high quality geotechnical engineering skills driven by moral and statutory duties to public health and the environment, as well as the issues of corporate liability, due diligence, and the opportunities for profitable redevelopment of brownfield sites. Project experience includes the design of traditional and more complex foundations including ground improvement techniques, piles and reinforced concrete rafts for single and multi storey commercial, residential and industrial buildings.
We also provide the facility to design and carry out Site Investigations to recover specific geotechnical data and to carry out slope stability analysis and ground stability risk assessments, and supported by the Advanced Analysis department for projects requiring detailed numerical modelling.
Engineering Project Management
Merebrook Consulting Ltd have core expertise in Civil and Geo-environmental Engineering which clearly demonstrate our ability to project manage and resource ground engineering works for schemes ranging from small contaminated land remediation to large groundworks and geotechnical projects.
Our site engineers are complemented and supported by contracts management experts and quantity surveyors in the field. On any project, especially where we have been involved in the assessment of ground conditions and the design of foundations, roads and drainage, we could not be better placed to prepare the groundworks or remediation/construction contract and to facilitate the role of project manager, contract administrator and site engineer. The role of Construction Design and Management Consultant is a service enjoyed by many of our clients on a variety of prestigious projects.
Civil & Structural Engineering
Unifying structure and architecture with practical and innovative solutions, the disciplines of Civil and Structural engineering encompass a wide range of skills from geotechnics and tunnel design to bridges, highways, power generation, lighting and water engineering.
Through our broad, multi-disciplinary skill base and experience across a wide spectrum of engineering services, we deliver a high value service based on our knowledge of economic feasibility, site selection and evaluation, engineering design and infrastructure.
Our engineers carry vast experience of civil engineering design from estates road and drainage and ground-modelling to large projects for the petro-chemical and power industries. This is complimented by a wealth of experience in the design of more traditional single and multi storey buildings, including hotels, apartments and housing, from foundations through to the finite element analysis of more complex superstructures in steel, concrete and timber.
