Sunlight Direct

Sunlight Direct was founded by Dr. Duncan Earl, the co-inventer of the technology, back in 2004. This technology is revolutionary because of the tracking, concentrating and the ability to use natural sunlight and redistribute it through fiber optic cables. With the renewable energy market becoming a burgeoning center, this full spectrum, free light is an essential ingredient.

As with all new technology there are always pro and cons, the main two cons are cost and inefficient use, if there is no sunlight then the technology becomes useless and not cost-effective or reliable. Dr. Earl had overcome this when he led a team at Oak Ridge Nation Laboratory and developed a rooftop two-axis tracking and concentrating solar platform, with protection using multiple patents and trade secrets.

Hybrid Solar Lighting

The hybrid solar lighting system uses the patented SolarPoint system by tracking and concentrating solar energy that is then passed as power and efficient lighting. This system is rooftop mounted which offers discrete use for buildings, along with scalability and network to meet utility requirements.

Once the natural light has been captured, it is then processed into artificial lighting by the use of fiber optic cables. This revolutionary renewable energy system has already won an award for its excellence in 2006 it had won the prestigious R&D 100 award.

SolarPoint™ Power is the second product that Sunlight Direct produces, this system is a 1kW photovoltaic (CPV) concentrated systems. It can generate electricity as around $2 per watt. Sunlight Direct is the only company to use plastic mirrors and optical fibers for its own unique sunlight collection method.
