Water System Software

Design out unwanted water hammer (pressure surge) events with Flowmaster.Flowmaster Group is an international organization that develops, markets, sells and supports Flowmaster, a fluid flow system design software package.

For over 15 years Flowmaster has been used by the world's leading water companies and consultancies to design out water hammer (pressure surge) events from piping and pumping networks before building the physical system.

Water System Software

Using Flowmaster water system software water engineers can build their piping system in an intuitive CAD-like interface by dragging and dropping common components such as pipes, T-junctions, valves, pumps and surge vessels from built-in component libraries. A database of common component data, based on the data from the leading industry reference “Internal Flow Systems” by D.S. Miller, is also provided in the software to enable piping networks to be modelled more quickly.

Water System Analysis

Once a model has been built and the relevant data added to the components the engineer has a choice of water system analysis options, steady state (fixed operating condition) or transient (dynamic time dependant condition). Steady state analysis predicts the pressure and flow rate at any location in piping network for a fixed pump speed and / or valve position. Transient analysis predicts how the pressure and flow rate varies around the piping network based on dynamic events such as valve closing and / or pump trip.

As well as predicting water hammer (pressure surge) events, water engineers use Flowmaster to:

  • Size components such as surge vessels
  • Optimise the piping network performance to avoid pipe failure for any operating condition
  • Perform multiple “what-if” analysis on existing piping networks to identify if it is feasible to upgrade an existing system
